Creative Director Lucas Tetrault Wins Illustration Throwdown

May 19, 2020

Recently, Indy Design Week hosted an online Illustration Throwdown as part of this year’s Indy Design Week, fully online for the first time ever due to the current state of social distancing. The throwdown featured 14 illustrators in a live stream battle using both digital and traditional mediums, drawing their way through a list of random prompts in a bracketed format. The illustrators were given only 2-3 minutes to interpret the theme they were provided and complete their illustration. The matches were judged by a panel of industry professionals, including Adam Johnson, Danni Kane, Jenny Tod, Jingo de la Rosa, and Shawn Whistler.

WSS Creative Director Lucas Tetrault was one of these 14 illustrators, and the only one located outside of the immediate Indianapolis area. In an underdog story, Lucas actually lost his initial match due to some technical difficulties but was overwhelmingly voted back in as Audience Choice by those viewing the stream live. His final drawing prompt was “community” and, to quote the hosts, Lucas “kicked it out of this world” with his drawing of the globe literally kicking Coronavirus.

“I was honored to be among so many talented artists and appreciate everyone voting me back in after the first round,” stated Tetrault. “It was intimidating, incredibly fun and an awesome way to kick-start Indy Design Week!”
